Punters bring Celtic rock to Tapps
By Marni Weisz

It must be really hard for all of the Celtic bands out there to find their own niche. I understand. But it seems that they're just falling over themselves to prove how different they are from one another.

The Punters, the group that will be at Tapps tomorrow night, is one of the many bands that tries to differentiate itself because of its hard rock edge. Count Rawlins Cross and Great Big Sea among them.

Perhaps the thing that is different about this quartet of accomplished musicians is that it draws its non-Celtic influences from retro-rock, blues, folk and pop.

Here's an interesting tidbit about the band. It recently recorded a new version of its song, Heave Away, to serve as Brian Tobin's theme song in his election campaign. The remixed version is called Lead the Way.

The band is expected to start its first set at about 10pm. There will be a $2 cover charge.
